Learn about Australian animals through AR technology
Senior UX/UI Designer
Team:
Mirk wanted to create an immersive world where children could learn about Australian animals through AR technology. The goal was to provide a user experience that is easy to understand, with a user interface that makes players feel as if they were in the outback.
The project began with extensive research into appropriate visual styles and interactive experiences that would resonate with children. The objective was to strike a balance between a captivating and playful aesthetic, while also ensuring the accuracy and educational value of the content. After exploring various design possibilities, a decision was made to use a color palette that spoke to the Australian outback and to create a simple and easy-to-understand UI.
Collaboration with 3D modelers and game developers was crucial to bringing the app to life. By working closely together, we collaborated on the user experience. This involved regular communication and iterative design cycles to ensure the UI design and 3D model style harmoniously complemented each other, creating a cohesive visual experience for users.
The app offers three main features: Sanctuary, Explore, and Shop. The design approach for the user interface focused on simplicity and ease of use, especially for younger users. A simple and intuitive home screen menu was developed to allow children to easily navigate and select the desired features.
The Sanctuary feature provides a virtual habitat where children can learn about different Australian animals and their natural habitats. Using augmented reality technology, children can interact with 3D models, observe animal behaviors, and access educational information about each species.
The Explore feature encourages children to embark on virtual adventures, discovering Australian animals in their natural environments. By utilising augmented reality (AR) technology, users can place virtual animals in real-world surroundings, offering an immersive and educational experience. They can observe the animals' movements, learn interesting facts, and expand their knowledge of wildlife.
The Shop feature allows children to collect virtual items related to the Australian animals they encounter in the app. Users can earn rewards by completing educational quizzes and challenges, fostering engagement and motivation to learn more about the animals.
